We basically see what we want to see. In the process we miss what is actually there. In 2008, we pinned our hopes and dreams on Barack Hussein Obama. It soon became apparent that we had grossly miscalculated.

In her column, entitled, “Turkey’s Cautionary Tale”, in today’s Jerusalem Post, Caroline Glick cites Turkey as just one example of ’Dreamland’ having been hyped by the western media as the modern face of Islam and portrayed as an example of an Islamic country that the West can actually work with. Not so fast. Glick skillfully ticks off the steps that Turkey has taken since Erdogan’s election in 2002 that puts the lie to any idea of Islamic rapprochement with the West that the western media incessantly claims. I urge you to read it.

Similarly, we’ve been steadily backsliding into the ‘Dreamland’ fantasy of ‘global warming‘, even after the whole thing has been exposed as a hoax.

We continually hear that our economy is improving. But is it? Is this even within the realm of possibility given our present leadership?

Which brings me to Trump. The Left has launched an all-out assault against Trump. This is because it fears him. Again today, on Glenn Beck’s program, Beck’s sidekicks were hammering him, replaying old sound bites in which Trump bashes Bush. Let me remind you, in those days everybody was bashing Bush. In fact, it became our national pastime (sans hot dogs and beer). You could instantly advance to your 15 minute celebrity status by bashing Bush. That’s how we got Obama.

Obama now pretends that all the criticism he’s receiving is just a part pf presidential scenery. Not so. Bush bashing was fun. Now things have turned serious and most of us have sobered up.

In those days, Trump did not speak as a politician. He spoke as himself in the current vernacular. Now he speaks as one of us, alarmed by what has happened. Sure, he knows Schumer and all the rest. He sat at their tables, and they at his. They did not speak politics per se; they spoke deals.

As I’ve said before, Trump seems a patriot; he does not seem ideological. He appears to love America. He understands what has gone wrong. He is confident inside his own skin. He feels he can make a difference.

There are those who say he would split the Republican party and hand a win to Obama. It may well happen that way. But then again it may not. Look at it as a ’hail Mary pass’ by our side; one last chance for us to throw chucks under the runaway chuck wagon. If the wrong Republican is elected, we lose anyway.

Romney: Didn't We...

When people are taken hostage they are customarily bound and gagged: bound, as to prevent escape; gagged as to prevent them from speaking.

Though I have no proof, I believe that years ago the Catholic Church was deliberately infiltrated by elements that were intent on sowing mischief. There was much to be gained by the diminution of the Church’s credibility and power. Offshoots and lesser Christian denominations were targeted as well, but there the approach was more directly ideological. These would essentially evolve into politically-driven social clubs.

In politics, a similar strategy has now become apparent. The Democrat Party - the weaker of the two American political parties, weakened primarily by the indiscretions of Bill Clinton - became a cesspool for leftist tripe. The Republican Party also would not remain immune to anti-American trends.

In our last presidential election it was interesting to note just how the strategy works. The people were presented essentially with a Hobson’s choice. On one hand, a known entity, saddled with all of the trumped-up failures of the past; a war hero, who quite appropriately wrapped himself in the American flag, but was a ‘progressive’ (new word for ‘socialist') nonetheless. On the other, an unknown. “Let’s try something different,” became the excuse of the duped who thought themselves as modern and, above all, (oh so) tolerant. (The Islamization of America had not yet entered the frame.) The office at stake was not that important after all. We’d been attacking it, belittling it, mocking it for eight years without seeing much of a difference.

As the table is now being set for the 2012 election cycle, we see more of the same. No doubt, Obama’s record constitutes a serious drag for Democrats as Republicans continue to poll well. But far from taking the opportunity to change course, we’re merely changing masks and party labels. Romney should be out by virtue of his health care blunder in Massachusetts alone. The real standard bearers of conservatism continue to be demonized by both the Left and the Right. ‘Centrist’ and ‘no labels’ are exalted, but stand firmly for the status quo: a sometimes rapid, sometimes slow descent. When what we really need to do is tear up the tracks going forward and turn this train around.

As I’ve said previously, Obama’s election was no accident. All was in place to bring it about. I maintain, that under McCain it would now be no different. In some ways it might even be worse.

I am simply amazed how many who claim to be on our side are perfectly willing to denounce Palin; how many laugh and nod their heads knowingly when someone outrageously and publicly claims she is no more than masturbatory material.

Romney looks good on the golf course. I may be mistaken, but didn’t we just try that?

Liu Xia Taken

This goes to the point of just how much the Nobel Prize committee has been politicized. It has been seriously embarrassed recently, having awarded prizes to the likes of Barack Obama, Al Gore, Paul Krugman among others. The committee has been blatantly exploited as a political tool by the Left, and it has finally sunk in. This year they’ve tried to redeem themselves by awarding Mario Vargas Llosa and Liu Xiaobo. In doing so, at least in Xiaobo’s case, they’ve succeeded in making things much worse for him. The Nobel Prize committee has been playing in the deep, ideological end of the pool. They’ve done so without having first learned how to swim. It would be best for them to disband and start over.

The same can be said for the Republican Party. Their projected wins in November will thrust them into the spotlight. They will be held to an impossible standard. Any hint of flaw or wavering will be exposed, and magnified by the media’s version of Hubble. It would be best for both parties to disband and start over.

Are Both Parties Dead?

The question to be answered by every voter is, "Are both parties dead?" There is enough evidence to indicate that this is indeed so. The next question is: “Can we afford to start from scratch; to plan, nurture and organize a new party into existence?” The answer is decidedly no.

The Democrat Party, which is now the Socialist Mop Party (SMP), is threatening to sweep our country into the ash heap of history (and us along with it). We must act now! Granted, the Republican Party has pretty much kept silent during this time of crisis. This gives the impression of it being sorely ineffective - complicit, even. Still, it must be said, Republicans do not seem as determined to cast us upon the jagged shoals of feudal servitude and personal bankruptcy.

There's not much time. We must go into battle with what we have - a dispirited party of losers. Perhaps, with some combination of threat and encouragement, we can goose them back to some semblance of strength. Perhaps we can salvage the GOP mantle and some of the elements of its structure and animate the carcass with our own desperate need to preserve what we have worked so hard for. Perhaps this would suffice to frighten our enemies - the jihadis; the communists; the nihilists; the dreamers; the one-worlders; the Utopians; the narcissists; the thieves; the charlatans; the liars; the soulless - just long enough to delay their final assault.

It's day to day now. Each weekend evening we can count among our blessings with John Batchelor's dulcet tones to accompany us is a gift. Pray that the tsunami unleashed by the Obama election will not be sufficient to destroy the elemental precepts of our civilization.

Parrot Sketch

The Republican Party is dead. There's no longer anything that can save it. It can appear to function - like a Zombie bank - but that illusion of movement is just the buzzards and the maggots. Sure, there's a rich history there, all the way from Lincoln to Reagan. It hurts some of us to let it go just the way we were once determined to hang on to our American brand of car and cigarettes - until we figured out that both were killing us. Eventually, most of us went Japanese and we gave up cigarettes altogether. Now, all we can do is watch the old Bogart movies.

We're all on the same side. I get wary when someone attacks the Republicans without mentioning the Dems - or vis-a-versa. Both parties are no more; deceased; expired – like the ‘Norwegian Blue’ in Monty Python’s ‘Parrot Sketch’. It's no use pretending they’re not dead. The Dems are animated by Marxism; the Republicans are animated by maggots. Time for something new and healthy; something optimistic; something with a vision; something capable enough to inspire; something vigorous enough to sweep all the road kill to the side.

It'll take some time to get organized; to find our sea legs; to become confident enough to draw serious attention. We're already much further along than anyone thought possible. You wouldn't know that from reading most papers and watching TV.

The '9/12 March on Washington' was a watershed moment. All those who attended knew it was that. There will be other such moments - like a Hoffman win in NY's 23rd, like Corzine going down to defeat (eventually), like the anti-Obama vote in Virginia come next Tuesday. Republican wins in NJ and Virginia should not be interpreted to mean that the Republican Party is alive and well. It's a mere stop-gap measure to show that the country is already sick of Obama’s brand of communism. The Republicans are next up to get their clocks cleaned by, let's say, a party of people who embrace (American) principles, values, sanity and common sense.

FAILED!!!

Pakistan is like the Republican Party: FAILED. Pakistan is not a real country; it is only the shadow of one - like the Republican Party. Try to grasp it, and your hand comes away empty. Sticks do not bring the dead back to life, nor do carrots. Neither does pretending that the dead are alive.

Where both HRC and JB's arguments break down into nonsense is by trying to have it both ways. Either Pakistan or the Republican Party are certifiably dead, or they are not. If, as JB continues to intimate, that the Republican Party is dead or dying, let it go in peace and hope that whatever supplants it will prosper. Care for it; nurture it. Rip out the old stump and burn it. Why even waste time discussing it?

Same with Pakistan. Why must we pretend it's a vibrant democracy when we all can see it's a sink-hole (albeit, a sink-hole with nukes). Maybe it's become too dangerous to let it go on. So, what are we (still militarily the world’s most powerful country) going to do about it? Seems to me we have a crisis in leadership. Once reduced to the size of Denmark (as Obama seems to want us), then we can start wringing our hands. As for now, should anything bad happen over there (or in Iran, for that matter), we have no excuse. We’ve had plenty of warnings.
