Declare the Wearing of Glasses a Crime

You can always count on Bill Maher to say something stupid. His appeal (if it is that) is not in what he says; it is in how he says it. Also, never forget that one of the reasons ‘W’ ran into so much trouble politically was because many of his supporters thought he was not conservative enough. In other words, that he caved in too much to Democrats.

The Left's complaint about POTUS is just that. They feel he has not been radical enough. He has allowed talk radio to dominate the narrative; he has bailed out the rich and famous on Wall Street; he has not closed Gitmo; he has continued Bush’s wars; etc. The hard core Left in this country is basically a destructive and vengeful force. They’d likely see happen what Pol Pot did in Cambodia: clear out the cities and drive people out into the countryside; erase any vestige of human history; declare the wearing of glasses a crime (for it means that one might be inclined to read books). They shun education, technology, art and free individual expression in general. To the extent that Obama has failed in this, they proclaim him a failure and he, who is essentially of a similar mindset, recognizes his shortcomings.

Mention that the Democrat party also does not speak with one voice, though it may seem so. What is clear is that the extreme left wing is calling the shots, while the moderates are being shunted out. It’s the same with Republicans. This makes for fascinating drama. Left and Right politics are irreconcilable – because they are essentially one and the same. With the middle forcibly hollowed out, the shell is bound to collapse.

For now it makes for good political talking points to blame Big Oil. It’s quite superfluous to dig for the truth behind the explosion. We might actually have to face the fact that there are people out there who despite our good (communist) intentions are determined to bring us to our knees – which is actually quite alright with the Pol Pots among us who envision Utopia as an endless system of gulags.

  1. You'll have to explain how the far right or left are the same thing. May be start by defining what that is. From a democrat's point of view, I might be far right, although I consider myself classical liberal, in the jeffersonian vein with a dash of Rand. I don't consider myself extreme, but when you see what the expectations of the government some people have, may be I am extreme to them. The middle is filled with people that don't want to offend anyone, don't know what they believe, or think they are somehow being fair. Being moderate is akin to Tofu in my mind, in a world of meat, vegetables and fruit. It's a disease of things being everything to everyone in one package that we see in many forms today. I call it metrosexualization, but I am getting off subject...As far as who did this, it could be eco-terrorists angry with Obama's okaying of offshore drilling, it could be your run of the mill jihadi, it could be something stupid that just happened on the rig or some design flaw, in other words Occam's razor applies. Who knows. BHO's response to this makes W's response to Katrina look like an overbearing hypochondriacal mother. It's the press that is giving Barry the pass.

  2. If you take a segment and label one end 'right' and the other one 'left'; and then you bend that segment to form a circle, the left and the right will meet at a single point. It works the same for any concept segment (God/devil; heaven/hell; etc.) If you use this template and think things through, it sometimes helps to put things in perspective. If it doesn't work for you, you probably aren't as right as you think you are or the Left (as you perceive it) isn't as left. Communism and fascism are essentially the same.

AS for who did it, I guess we can rule out accident. Did you read the article on Savage's website? It all fits - and not in the way you'd expect it to. My second guestimate would be Obama, looking for an excuse to backtrack on his earlier announcement.

  3. I thought of the Obama thing as well. I'll check Savage out. It's almost devilish to do something like that. My 10th grade social studies teacher, John Allison, showed me the bent page concept. Thing is, it's one dimensional. There are other axis to consider, like libertarian (freedom) vs. authoritarian (slavery, peonage) or individualistic vs. collective. It's puts a different spin on the traditional left right archetype.

  4. Peter:
The North Korean deal on Savage's site is gaining steam. I reposted it on my blog and I am getting 5x the hits in the midnight to 6 am slot. I also co-manage http://libertarianrepublican.net and reposted it there too. We'll see.
