Who Will Get Blamed

If we stipulate the damage done to our economy during Obama’s first term in office is no longer fixable, then it won’t matter much which party wins control of Congress in November. There is one of two theories that could apply. One, the president could get religion and shift to the center in hopes of picking up enough support to help him in his re-election bid in 2012. Or, two, he could rebuff any attempt by Republicans to force him to moderate, and blame continued evidence of failure on the Republican majority.

Remember, either way the economy will continue to tank. In the president’s own mind, he will have succeeded because collapsing the economy has been his goal from the start. It is my guess that he will not moderate. He will double down - primarily to flex his youthful muscles - goad and embarrass the opposition in every way his high office allows.

So, while we pat ourselves on the back in hot anticipation of epic election victories, we must keep in mind that the pump is already primed for failure. The only issue outstanding is who will get blamed.
