Cass Sunstein

Obviously, Sunstein has his backers. He is articulate, reasoned and persuasive. The extent to which he is willing to bring his views to the marketplace of ideas determines his level of confidence in what he’s promoting.

No doubt, Sunstein’s views are radical and quite in keeping with what some claim is Obama’s stealth agenda. I happen to agree with those who say that Obama has not been entirely honest with the American people. That goes to the heart of Obama’s credibility and presents a problem for him. Cass seems up front in what he believes – his credibility remains in tact.

Will Obama walk away from Sunstein when his (and Cass’s) policies fail to bear fruit? Will he cut his ideological twin off at the knees for political expediency? Only time will tell.

One thing is for certain: If the economic picture in this country does not improve or (God forbid) gets worse, Obama will have a lot of angry constituents on his hands.
Our president is just now beginning to learn the difference between rhetoric and governing. He is beginning to recognize the limits of his cuddly teddy bear charm. There’s a real world out there that only accidentally connects to ivory tower discourse.

Give Cass his due. He’s a pointy-headed dreamer, with his head in the clouds, who should be writing graphic novels instead of formulating public policy. He is of no interest to us. He’s a distraction. We must keep our eyes trained on Obama. We must attempt to divine our president’s moves because these, not Sunstein’s blather, will ultimately affect us all.
